Alberta Rural Community Recruitment and Retention AwardThe Alberta Rural Community Recruitment and Retention Award recognizes a rural Alberta community that has best developed innovative and collaborative approaches and solutions resulting in successful physician recruitment and retention in their area. Communities can nominate themselves or be nominated by others.

Step 1 Eligibility Criteria To be eligible for this RPAP/Alberta Chambers of Commerce Award, a community must be a “rural community” defined as Alberta communities except Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Stony Plain, Spruce Grove,Devon, Leduc, Calgary, Airdrie, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Red Deer, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge;
Step 2 Tell Us About Your Nominee Write a letter of nomination of no more than two typed pages that tells us how your nominee community meets the Award criteria and gives an overview of the nature and scope of your nominee’s achievements including:
- a description of the local physician recruitment and retention situation and any obstacles that had to be overcome before the new approaches were taken
- a description of the innovative and collaborative solutions or approaches used to overcome physician recruitment and retention issues. Who was involved and what exactly was done?
- a description of the results of the innovations/new approaches and how they have led to more successful physician recruitment and retention and improved your community. What was achieved? Attach any additional information that you need to tell about this success story (personal anecdotes, testimonials, narratives and pictures).
Letters of Support To be eligible for consideration, evidence of additional community support is required as demonstrated through at least two letters of support for the nomination – one letter from another individual and one from a community organization. These letters should make reference to the RPAP/Alberta Chambers of Commerce Rural Community Recruitment and Retention Award, mention your nominee community by name and provide brief information on the impact of your nominee community’s achievements in physician recruitment and retention.
Letter of Agreement All nominee communities are required to sign a release enabling RPAP/Alberta Chambers of Commerce to provide the media with their name. In April, a news release will be issued announcing the nominees for the award. Once an Award recipient is selected, a second release will be sent to the media. If your community nominee is selected as the Award recipient, representatives will be required to sign a letter agreeing to participate in media coverage.
Step 3 Tell Us About Yourself RPAP/Alberta Chambers of Commerce may need to contact lead nominators as part of the judging process. Please provide your name, mailing address, business/home phone numbers and e-mail address.

Step 5 Plan To Honour Your Nominee If your nominee is selected as the Award recipient, plan to have representation at the Alberta Chambers of Commerce Annual General Meeting held in May at which time the Award will be presented by representatives of the RPAP and the Alberta Chambers of Commerce.
Nomination Checklist Before mailing or e-mailing in your information, take a moment to review your nomination package to ensure it is complete and that the judges have all the information they need;
- Incomplete packages cannot be forwarded to judges. Have you enclosed your statement of nomination?
