Society of Rural Physicians of Canada (SRPC)The Society of Rural Physicians of Canada is the national voice of Canadian rural physicians. Founded in 1992, the society’s mission is to provide leadership for rural physicians and to promote sustainable conditions and equitable health care for rural communities.
The Society of Rural Physicians of Canada performs a wide variety of functions:
- Developing and advocating health delivery mechanisms,
- Supporting rural doctors and communities in crisis,
- Promoting and delivering continuing rural medical education,
- Encouraging and facilitating research into rural health issues, and
- Fostering communication among rural physicians and other groups with an interest in rural health care.
Other information or services provided through the website include the Canadian Journal of Rural Medicine (free of charge to all rural doctors), locum service, RuralMed Internet discussion group, discounts on annual and regional medical conferences, and hints on how to improve your working conditions. The society is a voluntary professional organization. Membership is available directly from the society.
