Alberta Health and Wellness (AH&W)Alberta has a publicly administered and funded health system that guarantees universal access to medically-necessary hospital and medical services for Albertans. Alberta also provides many health services in addition to those required by the Canada Health Act.
Alberta Health and Wellness is the provincial government department responsible for ensuring that health services in the province are properly conducted in the public interest. The department’s mission is “to improve the health of Albertans and the quality of the health system.” The ministry works to achieve this mission through four core businesses:
- Setting direction, policies and provincial standards,
- Allocating resources,
- Ensuring delivery of quality health services, and
- Measuring and reporting on performance across the health system.
The department also administers the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP).
