The UofA Department of Family Medicine and RPAP are in the process of recruiting a Co-Director to share the local level management of the Red Deer site of the Department of Family Medicine’s Rural Residency program. This position would work collaboratively with the existing joint Co-Director in Red Deer.

The rural Residency program of the Department of Family Medicine at the UofA offers two years of residency training accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada through three “home bases” in Grande Prairie, Red Deer and Fort McMurray for the PGY1 year, and close to many rural training sites throughout north and central Alberta in the PGY2 year.

The position profile below calls for the successful candidate to have a substantial knowledge of, and exposure to the issues faced by rural medical education, a working knowledge of the EEE-PARA Agreement, to possess significant experience in the health care and academic sectors, to be self-motivated and self-directed, and to possess superior interpersonal, facilitation, communication, management and problem-solving skills.

The position has an initial term of two (2) years and is renewable up to five (5) years (which may be extended) and with annual performance review. Continuation after the initial 2 years is with the mutual agreement of the candidate and the UofA Department of Family Medicine and RPAP as the funder.

The position is filled through a search and selection process involving the Department of Family Medicine at UofA and RPAP representatives.

The administrative office for the position is located in Red Deer and staffed with full time administrative support.

The Co-Director is appointed by the Department of Family Medicine and remunerated by the RPAP as an independent consultant at a rate commensurate with a 0.5 FTE commitment plus expenses and an annual professional development allowance.
